COURSE DESCRIPTION (DESCRIPCION DEL CURSO)

The 2.5-day practical and interactive training course, designed specifically for clinicians, will focus on the implementation of evidence-based interventions for children with unilateral cerebral palsy (CP). Using the latest evidence and knowledge from scientific literature, the course will assist clinicians in making sense of who, why and when to choose a particular upper limb intervention. The course will provide clinicians with the confidence and practical skills to implement interventions such as modified constraint-induced movement therapy, bimanual therapy and goal-directed training. It will focus on practical considerations, such as the individual characteristics of the child (age, cognitive function, motivation) and the importance of environment and behaviour to ensure effective therapy outcomes. Participants will also learn how to objectively evaluate outcomes in their practice. Detailed course notes and reference material will be provided.

Este curso completo, práctico e interactivo de 2.5 días se enfoca en la implementación de intervenciones basadas en la evidencia para niños con parálisis cerebral unilateral (PC). Usando como referencia la evidencia más actual de la literatura científica, el curso es para profesionales que quieren conocer quién, cómo, porqué y cuándo usar una determinada intervención de miembro superior. El curso ofrece a los profesionales la confianza y herramientas prácticas para implementar intervenciones como la terapia de restricción e inducción del movimiento, la terapia bimanual y el tratamiento basado en el objetivo. El curso se enfocará en la parte más práctica, como las características individuales del niño/a (edad, cognición, motivación) y la importancia del ambiente y control de conducta para asegurar unos logros efectivos. Los participantes también aprenderán cómo evaluar los resultados del tratamiento. Material e información estará incluída en el curso.

COURSE OBJECTIVES (OBJECTIVOS DEL CURSO)

Upon completion of this course, participants working with children with unilateral CP will be able to:

1. Understand and define functional hand use.
2. Recognise evidence-based interventions for the upper limb.
3. Understand the practical, environmental, and contextual considerations for the implementation of modified constraint-induced movement therapy, bimanual therapy and goal-directed training.
4. Understand and adopt models of practice that consider important transitions throughout childhood.
5. Understand and improve confidence in who, how, why, and when to choose a particular upper limb intervention.
6. Objectively evaluate the outcomes of specific interventions.
7. Understand the latest evidence for brain plasticity and its impact on the timing and choice of intervention.

Al acabar el curso los participantes serán capaces de:

1. Entender y definir el uso funcional de la mano
2. Reconocer intervenciones basadas en la evidencia de miembro superior
3. Entender las consideraciones prácticas, ambientales y contextuales de la implementación de la terapia de restricción e inducción del movimiento, terapia bimanual y tratamiento basado en el objetivo.
4. Entender y adoptar los modelos de práctica que se consideran importantes en las transiciones del niño/a
5. Entender y mejorar la confianza en quién, cómo, porqué y cuándo elegir una intervención específica de miembro superior
6. Objetivamente evaluar los resultados de la intervenciones específicas
7. Entender la evidencia más actual de plasticidad cerebral y su impacto en cuándo y qué intervención se debe aplicar
