The Assisting Hand Assessment (AHA 18-18) Refresher Course is a short course for clinicians who already hold AHA 18-18 certification. It is designed for participants to review important updates about the AHA 18-18 and recalibrate scoring accuracy against the criterion-referenced standards, helping maintain the consistency and reliability required to score the AHA 18-18 in clinical practice and research. This course is strictly limited to currently certified AHA 18-18 raters only.

The course is conducted in two steps:

  1. Self-directed learning and scoring (6-7 hours, within 2 weeks). Self-guided modules on the CPTeaching Learning Management System (LMS) covering the most recent AHA 18-18 updates, with practice scoring of four (4) AHA 18-18 test sessions. This step must be completed within the specified time frame to attend the live forum. There are no exceptions.

  2. Live online forum (3 hours). Discuss your scoring with your AHA 18-18 teacher, clarify any questions about specific items, and score one (1) AHA 18-18 test administration together with the teacher.

Who should attend

Occupational therapists and physiotherapists who hold current AHA 18-18 rater certification.

Course objectives

On completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Summarise the recent updates to the AHA 18-18, including the online score form, automated reporting and the CPTeaching Learning Hub.

  2. Score AHA 18-18 test sessions reliably according to the criteria in the manual (AHA Version 5.0).

  3. Identify the items on which their own scoring tends to be "too nice" or "too harsh" and correct these against the scoring criteria.

Course requirements

Participants must hold current AHA 18-18 rater certification. Evidence of completion of an AHA 18-18 certification course may be requested.

Please do not register for this course if you:

  1. Are not a certified AHA 18-18 rater.

  2. Have planned leave or other factors that will impact on your ability to complete all steps within the time frames specified.
